Samantha described her growing up years as chaotic – nothing she would ever want to repeat – and yet, as she reached adulthood, she made many of the same choices her mother did. She got into an abusive relationship and drank to cope…until she lost her children.
“I was so ashamed…ashamed that I was following in my mother’s footsteps, ashamed that I was an alcoholic, and I was ashamed that I couldn’t be the mom I always wanted to be.”
Samantha had come to Anna Ogden Hall with her mom when she was 14, so she knew where to turn for help.
This time following in her mom’s footsteps turned out to be a great thing.
“That shame and being ashamed of my choices has turned into gratitude.”
